Zola’s pink tail

Inspirational for writing Zola‘s pink tail

As a young mother living with ALS, for the past five years I have often felt stuck and without purpose.

I wanted to show my son that I am resilient and teach him how important it is to make a positive difference in the world even if you are suffering, but until recently I didn’t know how.

I was inspired to write Zola‘s pink tail after my son played a practical joke on us by dying her tail pink. Don’t worry, he used a non-toxic brand that is safe for dogs.

All of us humans loved it, but I wondered how Zola felt about it. She had never met another dog with the pink tail just like I have never met another 30 year old woman with ALS. I wanted to write this story about embracing individuality and uniqueness even if they can feel like flaws sometimes.

I hired someone to draw Zola but did the rest of the book on my own using my one working finger and Canva. It was a long and difficult process, but I am proud of the hard work I put into it.

Kids of all ages and adults will enjoy this whimsical “tale” with a meaningful message.
